The use of an illuminated letter is always associated with medieval manuscripts but their use can seem misplaced in contemporary calligraphy. I have a couple of my own designs in this section.
The other consideration with illumination is time. My example of 14th century manuscript in The Gallery took over 30 hours to create.
The use of a border or enhanced first letter can bring a piece to life, so have a look at some examples in this section and imagine how these could enhance your words.
And of course, simple words can tell a story equally well. Use The Gallery and First letter and borders section to build a picture of how you want your words to look.
